Laser Toning / LimeLight
Prevent formation of melanin deposits that cause pigmentation
Brown eye bags are caused by pigmentation that is developed under the skin by factors such as UV tanning, dryness of the skin and makeup. To improve the brown eye bags, it is necessary to speed up the skin cell turnover so as to increase the elimination of melanin deposits and prevent the formation of more deposits. Theory Clinic recommends LimeLight (photodynamic therapy) or Laser Toning; both are effective for the treatment of brown eye bags.
What is “Laser Toning”?
Laser toning is often used to treat chloasma (or melasma) that one out of four Japanese women are said to have. It is also an effective treatment method for freckles, macules and eye bags that are caused by under-eye skin pigmentation. A special laser irradiation (the latest top-beam) inhibits the excess formation of melanin deposits while improving the brown eye bags. Another merit of laser toning is that it is associated with almost negligible downtime. Most patients develop only a little redness of the affected areas after treatment and can wear makeup right after the treatment. The treatment of melasma used to take as long as two years to show any results. Laser toning dramatically changed both the quality and duration of treatment.
Laser Toning Technique
Laser toning uses specially designed Q switch YAG laser (generally called Q-YAG laser).
One of the special features of this laser is “top-hat irradiation.” Ordinary Q-YAG laser produces the so-called Gaussian beam, which irradiates only the central spots with intense beam leaving the surrounding parts. On the other hand, the top-hat beam irradiates the whole area with equal power.
Top-hat irradiation enables the adjustment of laser depth by 0.01 mm, which is one of the essential factors in successful treatment of melasma.
Treatment Process of Laser Toning
- STEP 1 Counseling
- First the doctor takes a medical interview. Then, he makes a diagnosis and describes the most suitable treatment plan for you.
- STEP 2 Cleansing
- Wash your face with a hypoallergenic soap that is provided by Theory Clinic.
- STEP 3 Treatment (irradiation)
- Q-YAG laser is used to irradiate the area with main focus on the melasmafor about 10 minutes after choosing the appropriate laser and the correct settings in accordance with the thickness of the skin.
- STEP 4 Electroporation
- Vitamin C (helps collagen production) and Tranexamic acid (helps whitening) is delivered into the skin.
What Happens After Treatment and the Number of Treatments Required
You may get a little redness of the affected area. The areas with dark spots may become red. However, you can wear makeup right after the treatment. We recommend that you take a total of 4 to 5 treatments, on once a week basis.

What is LimeLight?
LimeLight is therapy equipment with intense pulse light, which has been developed for treating people who have a lot of melanin. The whole face of the patient can be irradiated using LimeLight, which is not possible with laser. The heat from the flashlamp of LimeLight is delivered to the skin surface and the dermis to promote the elimination of the melanin pigment and to help the skin to regenerate quickly. LimeLight is a safe and effective treatment method for brown eye bags caused by the excess production of melanin. It is also effective for treating the symptoms of flecks, freckles, telangiectasis and ruddy complexion. It also improves the skin’s texture.
